Laminate is easy to clean February 25, 2011 at 1:02 pm

Laminate is easy to clean. To clean the laminate flooring in the house only needed a dusting or a very dry damp mop. As with a wooden floor, but no more than wet the floor of your home. The floor is wet, all the time, eventually warp. The water will attract and hold water. When the water dries the material in the laminate is moving and changing as real wood does. Do not worry, laminate flooring care and properly installed can last for years and years in the house, often times more linoleum or tile floors.

Laminate flooring is most affordable type of flooring. It is quite easy to maintain and clean. One of the added advantage is its durability.

Does a backward install need to be reaccomplished. We didn’t follow mainstream. We can only guarantee we have required gaps in a 13 X 16 room. It appears our boards are locked and no gaps between boards. Normal install is top left, left to right. We started at the bottom left and worked right to left. This was so a full width plank would fit under the door (after we trimmed entrance). Small gap left will be covered by a transition. The biggest oddity is we started w/ groove against wall versus the tongue (which usually is cut on 1st row). To us the installation went smoothly because we didn’t know better. I did test some leftover boards and see it does click easier the normal way. But regardless, we just worked backwards. We have our last row to lay, its yet to be ripped to 2.5 & installed. After a nice install I hate to start over and incur addt’l costs. We have 4 other rooms (not adjoining this room) to do . So we would like to know if we really screwed up before we start our next big project.

Deanne, Its kinda hard to follow exactly what you did with the floor but as long as you were able to install it and leave the proper expansion gaps then you will be fine. If possible I would recommend to install it going left to right with the groove facing you for the rest of the rooms that you still have to install. Let me know if you have any other questions. FRED

Can a lamanate floor be installed under non-fixed cabinates, such as kitchen not screwed to floor.

Hi Jerry thank you for your question. A laminate floor is not suppose to be installed underneath cabinets because it needs room to expand and contract if the laminate flooring is not able to expand and contract it could eventually cause your laminate to buckle. We recommend leaving an expansion gap about a quarter inch away from all cabinets, etc.I hope this helps. Brittany

Will a Multi-Purpose Chef’s Floor Mat, made of a 100% vinyl cover and 100% natural foam rubber insert, stain my recently installed Quick-Step Luna laminate flooring? I used this mat on my previous vinyl floor and it left a ‘black’, shadow-looking stain outlining the mat.

Hi Rose, Thank you for your question. The chef’s mat is probably leaving an outline because there could be a possibility of the rubber rubbing off on the laminate. If you take a little bit of acetone the mark should come off without a problem it would be like a shoe mark on the floor you can try to rub it off or take a little bit of acetone and the mark should come off. Don’t worry acetone will not harm your laminate floor. Good Luck. – Brittany
