Q:  I live in the Pacific Northwest- it is very wet, damp here.  I have a ranch home- high traffic area.  I am looking at your laminate flooring options- doing some research.  I don’t want actual wood flooring and I think laminate might be the way to go.  Anything I should look for?

Q:  Is laminate flooring what they call a “floating floor”- do you need glue?  I have seen where they can just snap and you don’t need to actually glue it down.
A:  All of our laminate is glue-less.  The padding is what makes it a floating floor.  It gives it room to expand and contract with the humidity in your home.

Q:  What laminate brands do you recommend?
A:  Alloc, Quick-Step, Kronopol, Kronoswiss, and Pergo.

Q:  What reasonably priced brand for a heavy traffic area (pets, children, bathroom etc) would you recommend?

Q:  Can you tell me about the shipping.  Is there more risk of damage with the $97 flat rate?
A:  No, there is no difference in the shipping method.  It is just a promo rate that we are offering for the bordering states within a certain mile radius of Ohio.

Q:  Once laminate is installed over radiant heat concrete slab is there a minimum recommended temperature?  I’m wondering about minimum temperature, reached gradually, when we leave this house for the winter.  We have been maintaining about 40 degrees and wonder if this would cause and problem
A:  The temperature needs to be heat controlled year long you cannot “spike” heat it.  It would need to be a gradual increase. There is not a recommended min temp though.  Our installer recommends instead of leaving 1/4 inch leaving up to 1/2 inch expansion gap for any rapid changes in temp.  You would just need to have a baseboard and quarter round to cover the gap.

Q:  What % should you add for waste?
A:  It would depend on the shape of your rooms and how much experience you have with laying the floor, typically 7-10%.  An experienced installer, with uncomplicated rooms (without a lot of cut outs etc) could get by with 5 %.

Q:  Is there a laminate floor that is waterproof and has padding attached?
A:  There are not any laminate floors that are completely waterproof, there are some that have water resistant features such as a water resistant core and waxed edges.  Both Kronopol and Alloc floors have a water resistant core.

Q: What are transition pieces?
A: Transition pieces would be used in the doorways or around fireplaces to cap the laminate.

Q:  I’m looking for the most textured, medium colored laminate for whole house.  I like a distressed look with a matte finish.  And I’ve got yellow labs.

Q: Just wondering if Inhaus laminates have Melamine Resin in them?
A: Look in the Product Specs, if one of the features is moisture resistant core, it may have melamine.

Q: Is the piano finish OK for dogs?
A: All Laminates are scratch resistant – not scratch proof, but typically a dog will not get through a laminate finish on its own.

Q: We are planning to expand the floor that the previous owners of our home put in but I was told that the same version is no longer available.  You can match the design but the locking systems are different.  What would that mean we have to do?
A: Instead, you would need to use a molding in between the old floor and new floor to integrate the two.

Q: What if there is shipping damage, what do we do?  What all is involved in getting it replaced?
A:  You have to sign the shipping papers and check your order. Before signing the delivery driver’s paperwork, inspect the shipment for any shipping damage that may have occurred. If the freight company will not allow you to inspect the item please conduct a thorough visual inspection of the outside of the shipping container and note any issues – no matter how small – on the driver’s delivery receipt.

If shipping damage is discovered at the time of delivery note any issues – no matter how small – on the driver’s delivery receipt. Contact Bestlaminate right away, so we can take care of it.  We then file a claim against the shipper and send you a replacement.

If you find unacceptable shipping damage you are always free to refuse all or part of the shipment. If shipping damage is discovered after you have signed for the item in good order then you are responsible for filing an insurance claim with the freight carrier within 24 hours of the shipment’s arrival.  Please take pictures of the damage and contact us right away.

Q: You used to have leftover lots for sale at a take it all price for local pick up.  I don’t see that anymore.
A: We still have them in our showroom as a closeout but we don’t list them online.

Q: What does liftgate vs. curbside delivery mean?
A: They are both the same, the freight company will get the flooring as close to the house as possible.

Q: What does your 3-in-1 underlayment do?  Is this premium quality and how thick is it?
A: Premium underlayment is 3 mm thick with a vapor barrier.  It reduces noise from walking on the flooring.  It is called 3-in-1 because it includes the 3mm padding, a vapor barrier, and stick strips down the side to join it together with other padding prior to laying the floor.
